Peugeot is na Daimler-Benz het oudste nog bestaande merk ter wereld. Armand Peugeot bouwde in 1889 zijn eerste auto, die voorzien was van een stoommotor van Serpollet. Van deze Peugeot-Serpollet werden maar 4 exemplaren gebouwd. Daarna ging de constructeur over op benzinemotoren. Sportsuccessen zijn talloos, maar de meest aansprekende zijn de overwinningen van Georges Boillot tijdens de Grand Prix de l'ACF van 1912 en 1913, beide op Peugeot auto's met 4 cilinder motoren, 16 kleppen en dubbele bovenliggende nokkenassen. ( Hoezo niets nieuws onder de zon?) De auto op de foto is een lichte 1 cilinder voiturette met 6 1/2 PK vermogen en werd gebouwd in 1903. Hij kwam speciaal voor London-Brighton uit Australie. |
Together with Daimler-Benz, Peugeot is the oldest and still existing marque in the world. Armand Peugeot built his first car in 1889, equiped with a Serpollet steam-engine. Only 4 of these cars have been built. He then switched to petrol engines. Successes at races are numerous, but the most important ones, are the victories by Georges Boillot at the Grand Prix de l'ACF in 1912 and 1913, both with Peugeots with a 16 valve 4 cylinder engine and double overhead camshafts. (Sounds familiar, huh!) The car in the picture is a light 1 cylinder voiturette with 6 1/2 HP, built in 1903. It was especially brought over from Australia to participate in the London-Brighton rally. |
