Wij komen graag in contact met eenieder die informatie kan geven over de auto op bijgaande foto. Het betreft een Austin Sheerline Princess, gebouwd voor het Koninklijk Huis. In 1950 gaf Koningin Juliana carrosseriefabriek Pennock & Zonen te Den Haag opdracht een lichte 6 cilinder cabriolet te bouwen. In december 1950 werd door de Rotterdamse Austin dealer Stokvis & Zonen een Austin Sheerline Limousine DM1L (linksgestuurd) chassis afgelverd, dat eind januari 1951 bij Pennock werd bezorgd. Alle tekeningen van de auto zijn verloren gegaan, maar uit de definitieve factuur van Pennock aan het Koninklijk Huis blijkt dat de auto in februari 1952 gereed was. Om verscheidene redenen beviel de auto echter niet en eind jaren '50 werd besloten de auto te verkopen. De wagen is korte tijd in handen geweest van een Hr. Post uit Heemstede totdat een Mr. William Oxener uit Lake City (Pennsylvania) de auto kocht en hem naar de VS bracht. In "Antique Automobile" van maart 1963 wordt de auto door Mr. Paul Rutherford, West Hartford, Connecticut, als volgt aangeboden: "For sale: 1952 Austin Princess. Beautiful double convertible town car. Custom body (one only) by Pennock of Den Haag, Holland for Queen of Holland. Beautiful inlaid woodwork. Flagstaffs in front fenders. Mechanically and physically excellent. 16,000 kilometers. Brought over from Amsterdam in 1960". Een aangetekende brief naar Mr. Rutherford kwam retour: geadresseerde onbekend. Jaren later herinnerde een neef van Mr. Oxener zich dat de auto verkocht was aan een sigarettenfabrikant in Lake City (PA). Uit een brief van de burgemeester van Lake City, Mr. Herbert Palmer, blijkt dat het de bedoeling was de auto te slopen nadat hij voor promotie doeleinden gebruikt was. Maar op het laatste moment zou de wagen gered zijn en zich nu in een privé-collectie ergens in Michigan bevinden. We would very much like to get in touch with anyone who can supply us with information about the car in the picture. It is an Austin Sheerline Princess and it was built for the Dutch Royal Household. In 1950 Queen Juliana ordered Carrosseriefabriek Pennock & Sons of The Hague to construct a six-light convertible. In december 1950 the Rotterdam Autin Dealer Stokvis & Sons, delivered an Austin Sheerline Limousine DM1L (lhd) chassis, which had found it's way to Pennock by the end of january 1951. All drawings were lost but the final invoice from Pennock to the Royal Household shows that the car was completed in february 1952. For several reasons the car was disliked and in the late fifties it was decided that the car was to be sold. For a short period of time the car was in the hands of a Mr. Post of Heemstede, until a Mr. William Oxener of Lake City (PA) bought the car and shipped to the States. In the march 1963 issue of "Antique Automobile" the car is offered for sale by a Mr. Paul Rutherford of West Hartford, Connecticut as follows: "For sale: 1952 Austin Princess. Beautiful double convertible town car. Custom body (one only) by Pennock of Den Haag, Holland for Queen of Holland. Beautiful inlaid woodwork. Flagstaffs in front fenders. Mechanically and physically excellent. 16,000 kilometers. Brought over from Amsterdam in 1960". A registered letter to Mr. Rutherford came back with the note: addresse unknown. Several years later, a nephew of Mr. Oxener recalled that the car was sold to a cigarette factory at Lake City (PA). A letter from the mayor of Lake City, Mr. Herbert Palmer, showed, that, after being used for promotional activities, the car was to be cut up and scrapped. This, fortunately, did not happen and at this time the car is hidden in a private collection somewhere in the State of Michigan. A leading dutch automotive historian who specialized in Royal Household cars would very much like to find out the whereabouts of this car.
