Delahaye is één van de oudste Franse merken. Opgericht in 1894 in Tours door Emile Delahaye
werd het merk al gauw tamelijk belangrijk. De afgebeelde Type 32 uit 1909 is een typisch voorbeeld
van de degelijke Franse middenklasser uit die tijd. Voorzien van een 4 cilinder motor van 1,9 liter van
12/16 pk kon hij goed meekomen. De glorietijd van het merk komt pas later, in de jaren '30, wanneer het samen met Delage (in 1935 door Delahaye overgenomen) met het type 135 wereldberoemd wordt. Na de oorlog worden door de Franse regering zware belastingheffingen voor grote auto's afgekondigd en
in 1954 gaan Delage, Delahaye en Hotchkiss (inmiddels ook in de groep opgenomen) op de fles.

Delahaye is one of the oldest of the great french makes. Founded in 1894 by Emile Delahaye in
Tours, it's star rose quickly and it became rather influential. In the picture is a Type 32 built in 1909
and it is a good example of a well-built French middle class car. Equipped with a 4 cilinder L-head
engine of 1.9 litre capacity and 12/16 hp it performed adequately and was built in considerable numbers. The best years of the company were the thirties when Delage (bought by Delahaye in 1935)
and Delahaye (with the type 135) were the kings of the Routes Nationales. After the war, however, the
French government imposed heavy tax duties on large cars which was very bad news for the company.
1954 saw the end for Delage, Delahaye and Hotchkiss (by then also part of the group) and the days
of the French "Grandes Routieres" were gone forever...
